Welcome back to our monthly blog on life at Data Intellect, where we bring you the latest updates, insights, and behind-the-scenes stories from our vibrant company culture. Each month, we’ll dive into the exciting social activities that keep our team energized and connected, from our adventurous outings and spirited quarterly team challenges to our impactful fundraising efforts and memorable social events!

Data Intellect 1st birthday: A Year of Milestones and Celebrations!

On May 2nd, Data Intellect hit its first birthday, and what a year it’s been! To celebrate, our global teams went all out (see if you can guess who's who!)

In Belfast, we rocked out at a company concert, complete with a cocktail bar and cake. Glasgow indulged in delicious Pho, while the London crew partied at The Sipping Room in Canary Wharf! And the fun didn't stop there, our Hong Kong team cruised on the iconic Aqua Luna red sail boats, Singapore enjoyed the thrills of the Singapore Sevens rugby tournament, and our New York folks had a glamorous evening of dinner and drinks (joined by our CEO Steve!)

A huge thank you to everyone who made this year unforgettable. Here's to even bigger and better celebrations next year!

Introducing our Women in STEM series

On the 2nd May, we were thrilled to host Anne Marie McGoldrick and Aisling Spain from The Electric Storage Company at DI's first Women in STEM event. They delivered a powerful presentation on overcoming barriers and achieving success in their evolving careers, followed by a lively Q&A session.

Our Women in STEM Committee aims to empower, support, and celebrate women in STEM. Kicking off with two trailblazers from a company revolutionizing the renewables industry in Northern Ireland and beyond was truly inspiring!

Teaming up for the Belfast Marathon Relay

Continuing in our spirit of fundraising this year, three teams from Data Intellect ran in the Belfast Marathon team relay to raise money for the Pretty n Pink Breast Cancer charity! In the end we raised a total of £1400 for this wonderful cause!

A special shout-out is also in order for Carla and Senthil who ran the whole marathon (a total of 25.2 miles!), and James who took on the Manchester marathon, raising a total of £600 for Alzheimer's Society.

A round of applause is due for each of our runners, you should all be very proud!

Revealing the Wellbeing Wall

On May 7th, we unveiled an exciting new addition to the social space in our Belfast office – the Wellbeing Wall! At the heart of the installation is the idea of creating a sanctuary—an oasis where each of us can find moments of inspiration, escapism, and connection amidst our busy schedules. This beautiful view of the glens of Antrim was chosen to allow our minds to wander into wilder places, that we all hold close to our hearts. We’ve also added a herb planter and some books alongside the wall to further enrich this space.

Thank you Cara and the People team for designing this wonderful installation – and of course to huunuu for making it happen!

"Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's summer time in Belfast!"

FreeFriday_Belfast
Summer is a mythical event in the UK and Ireland, no one can say exactly whether it shall appear or not, or even why it should appear at all. This is the time folks, for long walks, sunbathing, bike rides and putting your washing on the line with confidence. Most important of all, whether it lasts two days or two weeks, be ready to ditch your raincoat at the first hint of blue skies and dash to the pub for a well-deserved pint!

This month our Belfast folk were very fortunate to enjoy a sunny evening at the National for our monthly free drinks event. We also had a lovely guest appearance from Binky - can you spot her in this picture?

Embracing movement for Wellness Week

Perhaps the most exciting part of this month, was our Wellness week, which ran from 13th - 17th.

The theme this year was Movement: Moving more for your mental health.

The week included the launch of the wellbeing wall, 1-1 physical massage therapy sessions, a lunchtime boxing class at Sloan's Gym, and a meet up at Ormeau Park for a dog walk—for some well needed pet therapy. To wrap up the week we had breathwork sessions, a talk from our mental health first aider Katrina, and then finished with a refreshing sea dip at Helen's Bay!

A big massive thank you to Cara for organising this unbelievable week - and a shout-out to those fearless enough to brave the Irish Sea!

Stepping into wellness

In line with this month's wellness theme, we hosted a May Walking Challenge. Teams of about 15 members (joined by their four-legged companions) competed to rack up the most miles. With exciting prize giveaways, photo competitions, and double mile bonuses, the competition was fierce.

With the results now in, I can gladly report that together we walked a colossal 13,864.14 miles! - smashing our 11,200 mile goal! That's far enough to travel from Vancouver to Singapore with a quick cuppa in Hong Kong.

"What about the winning team?" I hear you ask. "Who takes home the crown for most miles walked?"

Drumroll please...

The winning team with the most miles walked goes to the aptly named "Scrambled Legs," who logged an impressive 1,232 miles!

A huge congratulations to everyone who participated. We certainly walked the walk!

Putting for a purpose at Lough Erne Golf

On 17th May, 3×4 balls went out for the annual Cash for Kids NI golf day at Lough Erne Golf!

Our competitors took to the course full of hope. Weather was no easy excuse for our golfers as the day was a scorcher. Cash for Kids NI organised a great day with buggies well equipped and refreshment karts throughout the course.

The scores are better left unsaid with two of our teams in the bottom three but some say its harder to come last than it is to come first so a congrats are in order to Jamie, Andrew, Sean and Dom.

Our New York team crushed it at the JPMorgan Corporate Challenge on May 29th with a 3.5-mile run through Central park!

This challenge is the world’s biggest corporate running event, hosted in 16 cities across eight countries and six continents, with the aim of blending work with wellness. Its great to see the guys get out for the day, flying the DI flag!

Big shout-out to everyone who joined the fun!

Crowning the King Of Tokyo at Board Games Night

As a company filled with people from all walks of life, together we share a bewildering array of interests, some of which are the focus of our social clubs. One of our favorites is the Board Games Club, whose members meet for a monthly games night, where only the best (and most obscure) games are brought to the table.

This month, the guys played King of Tokyo and Dixit!

That's all folks!

Stay tuned for next month’s social blog! In the mean time, follow our social channels for more updates on life at Data Intellect. Ciao!
