Blog Life At Data Intellect 2 Jun 2025

Paul McVicker

Welcome back to our monthly blog on life at Data Intellect, where we bring you the latest regional updates on social activities in the company. Each month, we’ll dive into our regular outings, social clubs, quarterly team challenges, community/charity events and much more!

Free Friday Drinks

Kicking off the wonderful month of May was Free Friday Drinks! With Summer just around the corner, and the usual free drinks and pizza, there was a huge turnout this month!

The Sunflower acted as a great host as always, and it was a great way to unwind after a long week and to get chatting to other team members outside of work! Free Friday Drinks will be back next month at the same time and the same spot, and with Summer being well underway by then, why not come along for some free pints in the sun!

Data Intellect's Second Birthday

Data Intellect celebrated it's second birthday this month! Whilst the company itself has existed for much longer (well before my time), it has officially been two years since the Data Intellect name was adopted!

We pulled out all the stops to celebrate, with balloons, cupcakes, and a free lunch for everyone in the Belfast office, with team members in other regions around the globe going out for dinner!

The company has grown significantly in the past 2 years, seeing many new faces join and new footprints made across the globe, and we are still continuing to grow. We look forward to seeing you all next year to celebrate the third birthday, and many more to come!

Five-a-side Football

Due to unforseen circumstances (half the players being called up for international duty) there was a break in five-a-side for a few weeks, but it was back this month at a new location!

This month we played at the Grosvenor pitches, much bigger than before, requiring a level of fitness I am simply not built for, but meant that we could have many more than 5 players per team competing! Our luck with the weather keeps holding, so if you are interested in getting out in the sun and taking part in a (mostly) friendly match, keep an eye out as five-a-side is making a big comeback!

Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week is an annual event aimed to highlight the best ways to improve our mental health! This is always a busy week at DI, with plenty of events aimed at improving our wellness, such as free massages, meditation sessions, free breakfast and even an ice cream truck! These events occurred alongside sessions discussing techniques to improve our mental health, such as controlled breathing sessions and journaling!

It's very important to keep an eye on your mental wellbeing, and even small things such as chatting to a friend or going for a walk can make all the difference! If you ever feel like you need to reach out to discuss your mental health, or wish to get involved with helping others, please reach out to our mental health first aiders; Katrina, Cara and Sam and they would be more than happy to help! A huge thank you to Cara for organising the events for this years mental health awareness week!

Charity Bake Sale

This month we had a charity bake sale, and this time it was for a bee-rilliant cause! The bake sale occurred on world bee day, and gave everyone a chance to get together, show off their baking skills, and to ask the question; to bee or not to bee (someone who donates money to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust) and the hivemind said yes!

Thank you to everyone who donated, and if you were unable to make it that day, you can still donate at our just giving page!

Quarterly Teams Challenge

After a slow start, this quarter's Team Challenge roared into life during May, with the people and finance teams heading out to take part! If you weren't already aware, this month's challenge is go-kart racing!

Mario Kart was so good last month that they decided to make racing a thing in real life, and it's almost just as thrilling! The Finance and People team set the bar high, with a staggering final score of 106.8574! Think you have the nerve and the skill to beat them? Make sure to get out with your team to your local track and give it a go!

The quarterly challenge will continue throughout the month of June, so there's still plenty of time left to compete! Tune in to next month's blog to find out who will be spraying champagne from the top of the podium!

Walking Challenge

image
May saw the return of the walking challenge! Each year at Data Intellect through the month of May we aim to collectively walk the distance where our colleagues are based, from Vancouver to Singapore!

The company is broken into several different teams, with a competition to see who can walk the furthest, with many prizes involved, including prizes for most individual distance walked, the first to reach certain milestones, and who took the best photo!

Just like last year, we smashed our target, walking over 10,000 miles combined! We would like to congratulate Janette for winning the photo competition, and to everyone who took part!

Hiking Club

The hiking club returned this month after a few months hiatus, with this month's hike being Slieve Foye in the Cooley Mountains, near Carlingford!

Despite adverse weather, we were able to make it to the summit, with the lack of view from the top being made up for with a trip to the sauna after the descent!

The hiking club have more hikes planned for the future, so make sure to keep an eye out if you are interested in taking part!

That's all folks!

Stay tuned for next month’s social blog, where there’s sure to be many more exciting events.

In the meantime, follow our social channels for more updates on life at Data Intellect. Ciao!
